The MACCS – Sottosale Museum of Contemporary Art, a UNESCO geosite located within the Italkali rock salt mine in Raffo (Petralia Soprana, Sicily), reopens to the public on 7 and 8 August, followed by 14, 21, 22, 28 and 29 August, from 9 am to 8 pm (limited-capacity sessions, booking essential).
The geological trail, stretching over one kilometre into the mountain, features rock salt sculptures, industrial archaeological artefacts, the Chapel of Saint Barbara and digital installations. Visits, organised by the Sottosale association, require compulsory booking via the Sottosale Secretariat (tel. 366 387 8751). Available time slots are 9.00, 10.00, 11.30, 14.00, 15.30, 17.00, 18.30 and 20.00.
Entry is prohibited for children under 12; dedicated workshops are available for them.
Full-price ticket: €12 (including safety helmet and guide); reduced price: €8 for children aged 12 to 16; free for disabled visitors.
The wearing of flip-flops, sandals and open-toed shoes is prohibited.
